The Beast in Me

Creative statement

After watching Mad Max: Fury Road and playing The Last of Us I had an idea to create an apocalyptic world of my own but with invisible aliens; a wasteland aesthetic like Mad Max but with unseen menacing threats rather like the zombies from Last of Us.

If I were to make the film again, I would change the filming location. Although it looked deserted it didn’t quite live up to the abandoned torn up wasteland that I was looking for, but it was the only place I knew that looked reasonable enough to use.

Overall, I’m happy with the film but there were challenges with filming it. I wanted to incorporate more filming and editing techniques. These included boom shots for the first shot and last shot. However due to lack of stability they turned out a little wobblier than I would have liked. I also tried trucking and tracking shots and arc shots and crash zooms. The wind also created background noise which disrupted the feel of the movie for me. While editing I noticed a few flaws such as my reflection on the guitar and the house in the background of the glove compartment shot.
